The things I've come to fear the most

How is it possible to fear the thing you want the most?

I'm so close
So close I can taste it
Taste you
And it's been so long.

I've been pining
6 months I've been pining
And now I'm so close I can taste it.

It's the ninth inning and I'm finally ahead...
Will somebody please send in the closer?
